We would like to see more community-based art appearing around Buckhaven and Methil and would be interested to hear if ideas for suitable public sites or preferred types of artwork we could consider in future, since this can take many forms.
The Jurassic wall mural featuring dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures and landscapes along Shore Street is by French artist Ian Tayac. Located beside an attractive red sandstone cliff-face, the two concrete walls are all that remains of flats built in the late 1960s after Buckhaven’s picturesque but decaying fishing quarter was bulldozed. The site lies about halfway along Buckhaven’s eastern foreshore and the wall mural is part of a wider series of enhancements suggested by the Community Action Plan and organized by CLEAR in conjunction with Fife Council to enhance an important, attractive but often neglected area.
